I Carried a Pregnancy Because I Had No Other Option

I wanted to share my story with you and why I’m so thankful for people like you. Fighting for pro choice and information young woman lack is truly amazing.

When I was 18 in 2022 I got pregnant with my now fiance then boyfriend. My parents made it very difficult for me to get medical care. As we all know condoms arnt effective always and rips happen. This is my case. I was also given wrong info about birth control and how scary it was. (I’ve now used it for 3 years)

I had no way of finding out I was pregnant until I started missing cycles but I was irregular so I also thought it was normal until I didn’t. I refused to tell my parents because of their beliefs, same with my partners parents. I had no way of getting myself to Calgary for an abortion in 2022 and just kept myself hidden.

February of 2023 I drove myself to hospital while having contractions and that’s when I had my baby. From there for me it was nothing but heart ache. I knew I couldn’t take him home I lived in a bedroom. Literally that was it I rented a bedroom, my microwave was in there for food, my dishes and cooking supplies also. I had access to a bathroom but it wasn’t mine. I knew that wasn’t the life he deserved. I had to place him for adoption.

I am so thankful for the family he is with I see him almost every month. They are wonderful people raising him to be a fine young man. But I do think he should have been with me and often do feel I could have had an abortion here in Lethbridge as it would avoid all this heart ache.

Don’t get me wrong I’m thankful he’s around and I wouldn’t change it for the world now he completed a family. But I know if it were the past and it were available and I didn’t know anything I did now, I would have had an abortion. Its so genuinely painful not having the boy you so truly wanted for yourself being raised by someone else.

Thank you for your time and reading all this❤️
